Vanessa + Anthony: In the footsteps of her ancestorsVanessa, from Chicago by way of Tlacolula, wanted to be in touch with where she came from for her engagement session. She and Anthony, also from Chicago but whose family came from Northern Mexico, experienced the morning walking through her family's hometown of Tlacolula on Sunday, market day, wearing traditional dress. They wandered through the church courtyard, received a blessing from an aunt in the market, caught up with an uncle, flipped tasajo on the grill, and prayed in the church. It was a tremendous honor for me to be trusted with documenting the love and care Vanessa showed throughout the day in immersing herself in the traditional life her parents and grandparents had known growing up.
