About

Meet Douglas Oaxaca Destination Wedding Photographer

I help genuine, adventurous professionals make natural, fun, timeless, and true memories in places that inspire them as they celebrate their commitment to building a life together.

I began capturing images with my own camera at the age of 9 (a few years before these portraits here). There were only 12 exposures on the roll. Each click had to count. It was a trip through Morocco in my twenties in 2006 that showed me I had to do more with photography. Within two years I was shooting my first destination wedding in Oaxaca.

What fires my creativity is the trust my clients place in me.

Being entrusted with catching the vibe of your entire day is what grounds me in the source of my creativity. Your wedding day should be about who you are at your best. As you grow, you will not want to look back at your wedding day and think it ended up being the kind of day someone else pressured you to have, or the ordinary day everyone else was settling for.

I am here to help you make sure that does not happen.

a little More about me

When I'm not photographing weddings, I'm ...

…exploring new cafés (did I say cafés??? I meant … places! all kinds of places! places in different places!) with my family. Here we are on the wooden bridge going over the railroad tracks in my hometown in Illinois. Growing up we’d take the family car over this old fire-damaged relic. And it was a one-lane bridge with two-way traffic! You had to get to the top first – and there was no way to see if anyone was coming up the other side. Always an adventure! Now it’s a quaint walking bridge closed to vehicles. My wife and kids were all born and raised in Oaxaca, so I am really happy whenever I can show them little pieces of my childhood like this in person.

Otherwise, I enjoy living in Oaxaca as much or more than they do.

My first few months living in Oaxaca, I’d get homesick for typical food like homemade chili and chocolate chip cookies. But soon my hometown tastes were completely replaced by the memelas, tacos, quesadillas, pan de yema, hot chocolate, and mole of Oaxaca.

While I love to travel and always take my camera on every trip, as a photographer I can’t get enough of Oaxaca. Color, texture, mood in every scene. Layers of history everywhere you look. A land of harmony and contradiction. I wonder if I would even be a photographer if I didn’t live in Oaxaca – that’s how visually engrossed in it I am.

What else can I tell you?

Press and Awards

I am grateful for the following awards and features that have honored my work over the years.

What are my photos made of?

Your trust in my creativity

The first time I had the chance to capture a wedding day, May 31st, 2008, I was overcome with excitement. It combined every kind of photography I loved–portrait, documentary, architecture–and all the details.

I loved knowing how much the bride and groom trusted me with every moment of their day.

From that day on, I have been driven by the same wide-eyed enthusiasm and the desire to honor the trust my couples place in me. This is what grounds me in the source of my creativity–and my sense of integrity, too.
