Common Wedding Photo Worries, and What I Do About Them

Couples planning a wedding in Oaxaca from another country bring up the same few worries about their photos. Here they are, and what I do about each one.

“We’re awkward in front of the camera.”

Most couples tell me that. I’ll give you direction when you need it and leave you alone when you don’t, and for most of the day I’m photographing what’s already happening. No false posing.

“Will the photos show Oaxaca?”

You chose Oaxaca, and the textiles, mezcal, and flowers, for a reason, and you want to see them in your photos along with your family and friends. I’ve lived here since 2007, in my wife’s hometown, and I know the venues and what time of day each one looks best. I photograph the setting and the details as well as the people.

“Can the photographer talk to everyone?”

I speak English and Spanish, so I can talk with both families, from the family photos to the dance floor.

“How do we plan this from so far away?”

For elopements and proposals, I help plan the day: the locations, the timing, and the order of things. For bigger weddings, I’ll connect you with planners I trust.
