Top 5 Intimate Wedding Venues in Oaxaca for Elopements

I’ve lived in Oaxaca since 2007, and I have some ideas for where to hold a small celebration. Here are five places I like for an elopement or a micro-wedding.

1. Kaku Secret Gallery

This one is for couples who love art and architecture. Kaku Secret Gallery is a colonial courtyard in the Centro Histórico, behind a plain façade, and it’s now an art gallery. It’s the right size for a micro-wedding.

2. Casa Silencio

If you want agave fields, mezcal, and a remote, high-end experience, look at Casa Silencio. It’s a mezcal distillery outside the city, near Xaagá, with minimalist architecture, rammed-earth walls, a stone table, and wide views of the mountains and agave fields.

The property has six guest suites. If you book all of them, the whole place is yours for a very small wedding. The venue can host larger events too.

3. Jardín Etnobotánico

The Jardín is one of the most recognizable places in Oaxaca, right next to Santo Domingo church, and one of the most requested. Book it as early as you can. See it in Paula and Toto’s wedding.

4. Loma Noble

Loma Noble is about half an hour from the city, on a hilltop surrounded by maguey, with a small reservoir and modern facilities. Out there you feel far from the city, which suits an elopement or a micro-wedding. It has become a popular venue, so start the booking process early. See more on my Loma Noble page.

5. Casa Oaxaca el Restaurante

If great food is at the center of your plans, Casa Oaxaca el Restaurante is a good fit for a small group in the Centro Histórico. The service and the cooking are excellent, and the rooftop has views over the city at sunset.
