Why a Local Oaxaca Wedding Planner Is Worth It
I don’t run the timeline on a wedding day, but I’ve photographed weddings in Oaxaca since 2008, and I’ve seen what a good local planner does for a destination wedding. I recommend one to almost every couple.
What a local planner does for you
Most of my couples are planning from another country, often in a second language, for a wedding in a city they’ve only visited a few times. A local planner helps with:
- Vendors. The florist, the venue coordinator, the mezcal bar. A planner who has worked in Oaxaca for years already knows them, so there are fewer surprises the week of the wedding.
- Two languages. If your families speak different languages, a planner who works in English and Spanish can keep everyone and every vendor on the same page.
- The venue. Every venue on my top Oaxaca wedding venues list has its own quirks, like which spaces need a tent in rainy season or where the generator goes. A planner who has worked there before already knows.
Who I recommend
I only recommend planners I’ve worked with on real weddings, more than once. That includes Marcela González, who planned my very first Oaxaca wedding in 2008, and a few others. They’re all in my guide to Oaxaca wedding planners.
Do you need one?
For an elopement or a gathering under 20 people, you can sometimes skip the planner, especially if the venue handles coordination on the day. For anything bigger, or if your families speak different languages, I’d get one.
